Creativity Through Puppets

In this workshop, students learn about the art of developing and making a puppet as they design, build, and are taught how to operate a rod, hand, or shadow puppet. Each workshop is designed to fit your curriculum or creative needs. Success and creative expression are emphasized in this fun and educational workshop for children.

Grades: 1–2, 3–5
Fee: $100; $75 each for 2 or more, $4 materials fee per student
Workshop Size: 30 students maximum
Availability: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–2:00pm
Special Requirements: Two tables; volunteers to assist with glue guns; cleared work space for students

Create your own Kachina Mask utilizing Hopi and Navajo symbols. This workshop is a great hands-on learning experience for students kindergarten through sixth grade. Kachina Drums companion performance also available.

Grades: K–2, 3–6
Fee: $200; $150 each for 2 or more; $2.50 materials fee per student for workshop; $5 materials fee per student for residency
Length: 60 minute workshop or 2–3 day residency in which students develop their masks and a greater understanding of Hopi and Navajo cultures
Workshop Size: 30 students maximum
Availability: Year-round
Special Requirements: Tempera paint; sink with running water; chalkboard or overhead projector
