The History of the Wild West

Kansas Cultural History

Diane Bulan , Rebecca Dempsey, Chris Hudson, and Sam Wright, of the Kansas Settlers Band use songs, guitars, a washboard, spoons, hats, a large map, and stories to teach some of the history of Kansas. Students will enjoy the humor and participation of this lively program. Some will play spoons and dance, and all will sing, clap, and join in a game. A companion workshop is available.

Lewis and Clark

Lewis and Clark’s voyage is presented by the folk trio of Barton, Para & Fraser in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Conservation. Learn about the Louisiana Purchase, the heroic voyage up the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean, and how Lewis and Clark’s actions and discoveries changed our nation. Music of the era will be sung and played on stringed instruments, as well as a leaf, a jawbone, and a Native American flute. The performers are recognized masters and will bring their enthusiasm for musical tradition to this special program.

Missouri Cultural History

Music Around the World

The Musics of Mexico
