Ballet Camps 

                                      
Dance with Miss Kim Shope and learn how to choreograph your own dances!  Ballet Camps will include a highly concentrated curriculum with a specific focus on Ballet Technique, Pointe or Pre-Pointe, Flexibility, Repertoire and other dance disciplines.  Campers will have the opportunity to assist in choreographing a dance to demonstrate on the last day of camp.  Time will be set aside each day to do special classes and projects such as the study of dance in film, dance related art projects, and discussions on nutrition, goal setting, music theory, dance critique, choreography and more!

Open to currently enrolled students from the Beginner A and B class, and our Intermediate ballet ladies and additional students who have one year or more of dance experience.  (Advanced level dancers are also welcome and may be able to assist.)

  Open to dancers with at least two years dance experience and will concentrate      on developing the student’s choreography skills.


 

 

Brain Tease (Two Weeks!)

              

Tease your artistic brain!  This two-week camp will encourage creative thinking, artistic expression, hand-on construction, and much more.   Students will work together in teams to combine drawing, painting, acting, dancing, improv, and sculpture into to their own unique solutions to complex, open-ended problems.  Teams will display and present their final solutions at the Brain Teaser Challenge where a panel of judges will score competitors in multiple categories.

BeBop to Hip Hop

With heavy emphasis on improvisation and creative freedom, jazz laid the foundation for all forms of modern American music, including hip hop. Students will learn to create beats and craft lyrics for the hip hop music they will produce, while developing an appreciation for jazz. Students will also learn the basics of writing spoken word poetry and its relationship to both jazz and hip hop. With help from local artists, the camp will culminate in a collaborative song that will be professionally recorded along with a conceptual music video.

Camp Comedy: Friday Night Live

   

Create hilarious comedy sketches and improv scenes similar to Saturday Night Live using improvisational techniques, performance skills, and your imagination.  Campers will work in small age appropriate groups with professional teaching artists to develop their comedic style and put it all together for a performance for family and friends.

Dance Camp

                                          

You will love this comprehensive and energizing week of dance!  This is a great opportunity to become a versatile dancer by learning the fundamentals of a wide variety of dance forms.  Each morning you will study the basics of ballet and jazz.  Building on this knowledge, you will take workshops in modern, tap, African Dance, flamenco, and improvisation.  Learn how to create your own dance pieces using your new skills in choreography workshops.  Impress your family and friends with your new steps at the final presentation on Friday.

Let's Put on a Show Camp

 

Learn how to take a play from the page to the stage!  During this fun-filled week, you will form your own theatre troupe, and become producer, director, stage manager, designer, actor/actress...all rolled into one.  Create and build your own costume, make up and set designs.  You’ll even get your own theatrical makeup kit to keep!

Mystery Theatre Camp

 

Calling all detectives! There’s been a crime! Who solves it? You do! You and your campmates will stage your own “whodunit” using theatrical techniques to create and build suspense. Perform your mystery production for your family and friends on Friday!

Musical Theatre Camp

 

Become a triple threat!  Sing, dance, and act your way through a fun-filled week of musical theatre.  You will learn how to put these three essential elements together in an energetic and compelling manner.  Learn how to create your own musical in playwriting, songwriting, and choreography workshops.  Wow your family and friends at the Friday afternoon performance!

Radio Camp

 

Have a blast making people laugh!  Back by popular demand, those zanies from Right Between the Ears (produced by Kansas Public Radio) will take you on a journey through live radio comedy.  Learn how to create an entire world for your audiences using your voice, a microphone, sound effects, and your imagination.  The week culminates with a performance before a ‘live studio audience’.

Visual Arts Camp

 

Spend the week exploring your inner artist as you work with professional teaching artists to develop your visual art skills. The week will feature work in multiple arts media including clay, paint, and fabric!  Amaze yourself with the fantastic pieces you will have to take home at the end of this great camp!
