At last, a place where students are encouraged to "act up". Your child's self esteem will grow through theatre games, ensemble techniques and improvisation. Using well known stories and their imagination, students will create and perfrom short skits and scenes.

Actors don't just speak.....They move! The greatest musical theater actors in the world are called "triple threats," which means they can sing and dance as well as act. This course will be the beginning of your triple threat training. Get started! Learn to project voice and body on stage!

Acting A
Learn acting techniques used by the pros! Professional actor Andi Meyer will lead young performers through theatre games and improvisation techniques designed to stimulate the actor's imagination, voice and body. The class concludes with introductory scene and character study.

Join the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival for a new acting adventure! Previous Shakespeare campers and those new to the Bard will experience the joy of acting through the works of the world’s greatest playwright. Students will engage in vocal and physical warm-ups, acting games, improvisations, and scene work from Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy Twelfth Night. The session will culminate in a sharing of work for family and friends on the final class day. Classes are open to students ages 10 through 18 or by instructor approval.

Auditions this coming Saturday
The CSA Players, the Community School of the Arts’ acting company, will hold auditions on Saturday, February 9 at 12 noon. The Players represent the CSA at various civic, community and school performances throughout the KC metro area. Mr. Brad Shaw, CSA teaching artist and professional actor/director, will direct the CSA Players.
Audition information:
Date and time: Saturday, February 9 at 12 noon
Location: K Level Conference room at the Community School of the Arts

Eligibility: Any student aged 8-18 is welcome to audition. Please Note: You must be enrolled in a spring 2008 CSA class (group or private) to join the CSA Players.
Audition Material: Please prepare a monologue, story, passage from favorite book, joke or poem of your choosing. Your audition piece should be one minute or less. You may also be asked to read from a script after your prepared audition piece.
If cast in the CSA Players, rehearsals will be Saturdays from noon – 1:20pm beginning February 16-May 3 (no rehearsal on 3/22 because of spring break) . These rehearsals are mandatory. If you miss 2 rehearsals you may be asked to leave the Players, so check your calendars before auditioning.
If cast, there is a one-time fee of fifty-dollars ($50.00) for props, costumes, CSA Players t-shirt and other related materials.
