Jazz I

 

Learn basic jazz dance vocabulary and technique focusing on body part isola­tions. Emphasis is placed on the develop­ment of strength, flexibility, coordination, and rhythm. Attire: black leotard, jazz pants, jazz shoes.

Acting

 

This class serves as a comprehensive and fun study of basic acting skills. Students will focus on objectives, actions, and character/scene studies. Prerequisite: students must read proficiently.

Children’s Chorus

 

Directed by Paula Winans, Director of Ed­ucation and Children’s Chorus Master for The Lyric Opera of Kansas City, this choir is designed to create a lively atmosphere for choral training for youth ages 8–12 who love to sing. No audition necessary.

Drawing

 

Create still-life drawings using a variety of materials—pencils, conte crayons, various papers, erasers—in this exciting introduc­tion to drawing. The class will emphasize techniques such as shading, line, measure­ment, shape, and contrast. A complete list of required supplies will be sent with confirmation of enrollment.

NEW! Intro to Painting

 

Work on the basics with charcoal and pencil, then move towards black and white acrylic paints, with an emphasis on still life and painting from photographs. Students will receive a strong, working knowledge of shadow and light, two-di­mensional visual art. An overview of art history and painting is included.

It’s the Words

 

Do you love stories and have a wild imagination? Learn to create stories with children’s book author, Susan Clymer. Some of the area’s best writers, storytell­ers, and songwriters will visit to share how they create with words.
