Specialty Classes and Classes for Teens


Hip Hop

 

Chaffawn Haynes will combine traditional African movement with jazz and street dance techniques to create an exciting hip hop class. Learn stylized moves and rhythmic isolations of the body. Have fun developing an individualized style of grooving to popular dance music. Prereq­uisite: Jazz I and/or instructor approval.

Improvisation

 

Learn how to live in the moment and take positive risks in drama, comedy, and real life through games and activities that exercise improvisational skills.

Dance Repertory

You will learn several dance pieces in this fast-paced, performance-oriented class.  A variety of styles and techniques will be emphasized.  Previous dance experience is required.  Prerequisite: Instructor recommendation.

Garage Band

 

Play, collaborate, and create with others in a “garage” rock band format. Every member will have the chance to try vari­ous instruments and roles: electric guitar, electric bass, drums, acoustic guitar, keyboard, and vocals. Through experi­mentation and practice, the group will create its own unique sound. Prerequisite: Instructor recommendation.

Youth Chorale

 

This choir provides advanced training for singers with unchanged treble voices, high vocal aptitude, and some choral training. The choir will represent the Community School of the Arts by performing for the Business Committee for the Arts 2007 Partnership Awards Luncheon.  Auditions are required, please call to schedule.

Acting for Teens

 

An entertaining, focused approach for the teenage performer. This course uses as its base theatre games and group improvisations and then will delve deeper into character, monologue, and scene study. Special emphasis is placed on audition and rehearsal techniques.

Adventure Stories

Where else, young writers, can you travel into another time, create a fantasy world, climb a mountain or journey on a long ocean voyage...than in a class where you learn to write adventures? Bring your imaginations and come prepared to create! Prerequisite: Students must have studied with Susan Clymer before or instructors approval.
