NEW! Pointe and Pre-Pointe

 

Pointe (pointe shoes and teacher recommendation required) and Pre-Pointe (ballet slippers) age 7-18.  Class is for Intermediate pointe students who attend Intermediate or Advanced Ballet or Beginner /Intermediate class. Barre and Center exercises for all students improve leg and foot strength to prepare them for pointe work in the future (Pre-Pointe) and builds on ballet technique to learn new steps.

NEW! Ensemble Percussion

 

Students will learn technique and repertoire of Latin music and modern variants from Cuba, with some Western influence. Instruments (provided) used include conga drums, bata drums, cajones (wooden boxes), kata, claves, shekere and cowbells. Students will also learn songs in Spanish.

NEW! West African Dance & Drumming

 

Children will be delighted and energized as they learn proper balance and technique of West African Dance and Drumming. In drum class students will learn slap, tone, base and flam technique. Dance class offers the opportunity to improve performance skills, and allows children to express themselves. This class is designed to improve your child's self-esteem, concentration and cultural awareness. Students will study century old rhythms that depict harvesting, fishing and life from Mali, Senegal and Guinea. Wear dance/workout clothes and come have fun and learn in an up beat environment with live musical accompaniment.

Garage Band

 

You will have the opportunity to play, collaborate, and create with others in a 'garage' rock band format. Every member will have the chance to try out the various instruments and roles: electric guitar, keyboard, and vocals. Through experimentation and practice, the group will create its own unique sound.

Hip Hop Dance

 

This high-energy dance class is enjoyed by both boys and girls who want to learn the latest urban dance steps that are influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers, presented in an age appropriate manner. Hip Hop combines elements of traditional African, jazz and street dance styles. The class will include proper conditioning and warm-up, individualized dance steps and full-bodied combinations. Dancers will love learning these expressive dance steps while dancing to popular music. Prerequisite: Jazz I or instructor approval.

Dance Repertory

 

Take your dance training to the next level in this fun and challenging class. Join teaching artist Jeremiah Bagunu in creating and performing pieces from a variety of dance styles, including jazz, modern and broadway musical. Previous dance experience is required. Self-Publishing

 

Come and join an author on the adventure of Self Publishing! Just this last year, publishing on demand has become feasible and virtually free. Over the thirteen week term, you will write a manuscript, edit the text, illustrate the story and lay it out as a book. If the families so choose, the story can be sent out for publication. Students may even take a crack at creating a pod cast. This is the highest level writing class. Prerequisite: Instructor approval or previous study with Susan Clymer.

Acting for Teens

Acting is a craft as well as an art form. Hone that craft by delving deeper into character development skills, monologue and scene study. Special emphasis is placed on audition and rehearsal technique to get you cast in your school, community or professional production.
