Beginner Ballet

 

Beginner Ballet class is a wonderful mix of flexibility exercises, ballet at the ballet barre and dance combinations across the floor to increase coordination and musicality. Students perform center combinations of basic dance steps to improve memory and dance skills.

Jazz I/II

 

Learn basic jazz dance vocabulary and technique focusing on body part isolations. Emphasis is placed on the development of strength, flexibility, coordination, and rhythm. Attire: black leotard, jazz pants, jazz shoes.

Intermediate Ballet

 

This ballet class for students with 2 -4 years previous dance experience will consist of barre and center exercises with an emphasis on proper technique while encouraging students to learn new steps in a nurturing environment.

Acting A

 

Learn acting techniques used by the pros! Professional actor Andi Meyer will lead young performers through theatre games and improvisation techniques designed to stimulate the actor's imagination, voice and body. The class concludes with introductory scene and character study.

Acting B

 

Building on techniques learned in Acting A, students will continue to develop their skills and delve deeper into character development and scene study. Students will also develop and rehearse monologues and duet scenes. Prerequisite: Acting A or instructor approval.

Children’s Chorus

 

This choir is designed to create a lively atmosphere for choral training for children ages 8-12 who love to sing. Paula Winans, Director of Education and Children's Chorus Master for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, directs this beginning choir.

Drawing I

 

An exciting introduction to drawing! Students will create realistic still-life drawings using a variety of materials - pencils, charcoal, stumps, measuring rods, conte crayons, various papers, erasers etc. The class emphasizes drawing techniques such as shading, line, measurement, shape, and contrast.

It’s the Words

 

Do you love stories and have a wild imagination? Learn to create stories with children’s book author, Susan Clymer. Some of the area’s best writers, storytellers, and songwriters will visit to share how they create with words.

Intermediate Drawing and Painting

 

Students will be introduced to color and composition and use colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, and acrylics.  Students will work on color and design concepts like hue, intensity, value, balance, unity, and pattern.  Prerequisite: Drawing I, Introduction to Painting or instructor approval.
